Late December and early January is when many of us make resolutions for the upcoming year. Many people choose to make health-related resolutions or goals. We’d like to suggest a few resolutions that can help you maintain optimal dental health. These resolutions are very easy to keep and they’ll help ensure that your smile is as attractive and healthy as it can be throughout 2016 and beyond!
Maintain a Healthy Diet
Eating a healthy, well-balanced diet can help protect you from common oral problems like gum disease and tooth decay. Fruits, vegetables, beans and nuts are all rich in antioxidants to help guard against bacteria and inflammation. Raw fruits and vegetables like apples and carrots are great foods to eat regularly to help keep plaque off your teeth and for maintaining fresh breath. Make 2016 the year you improve your diet for better overall and oral health!
Fine-Tune Your Oral Hygiene Routine
One of the best ways to maintain good dental health is to do a great job of brushing and flossing your teeth. If you have slacked off a bit in this area, promise yourself that you’ll do better in the new year. You should be brushing your teeth after meals and before bedtime and flossing your teeth at least once per day, preferably before bedtime. Don’t forget to replace your toothbrush every 3 months or so and to use a toothpaste containing fluoride.
See Your San Ramon Dentist Twice Per Year
Even if you don’t think you need to schedule appointments with your San Ramon dentist because you don’t see any problems with your teeth or gums, it’s important to get regular checkups twice per year. There may be some dental problems lurking in your mouth you’re not aware of. If there is a problem detected during a checkup, your dentist will provide you with the necessary treatment to ensure that your mouth is as healthy as it can be.
Protect Your Smile with a Mouthguard
If you play sports or partake in any type of physical activity that poses a risk of injury to your face or mouth, you should wear a protective mouthguard. Injuries to the face or mouth can be painful and costly. A mouthguard will help protect your beautiful smile so make it a priority in 2016 to buy a good quality mouthguard that fits well and which makes it easy for you to speak and breathe.
